NZAID engages with research in a variety of different ways. These are detailed below.
The IDRF is a contestable fund open to New Zealand based researchers (academics, non-government organisations researchers and the staff of research organisations) carrying out research in partnership with researchers from developing countries. Research supported by the fund will focus on advancing developing policy and practice in regions, countries and sectors aligned to New Zealand Official Development Assistance priorities.
For more information on the fund, including eligibilty criteria and frequently asked questions are on the IDRF page.
NZAID's Post Graduate Research Awards are offered each year to students form New Zealand universities undertaking research in developing countries.
The awards are only available to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who are undertaking research as part of the requirements of a New Zealand-based Masters degree or Doctorate in a field related to international development. Normally the planned duration of field research should be at least four weeks.
For more information on the the fund see the postgraduate awards page.
DevNet (the Aotearoa New Zealand International Development Studies Network) exists to connect academics, students and development practitioners. Anyone involved or interested in international development is welcome to become a DevNet member. It is free and members can find out about other members with similar interests as well as receive the monthly DevNet email update.
On the DevNet website members and non-members alike will fund useful information, including an Aotearoa New Zealand development research database, a calendar of development events and notices, discussion forums, and useful links.
DevNet is a separate entity to NZAID. NZAID supports DevNet by providing core-funding to its secretariat and by funding DevNet events. For more information about DevNet visit their website.
The Oceania Development Network is the Pacific affiliate of the Global Development Network.
The Global Development Network (GDN) is a global network of policy making institutes, research institues and researchers, both in the developed and developing countries, formed for the purpose of facilitating knowledge sharing about development and bridging the gap between ideas and politics.
As part of the GDN, the primary objective of the ODN is to provide a platform for researchers in the Oceania region to interact with each other, share knowledge and skills to foster team research, and build and update regional databases. This work will serve as a means of identifying contempory issues that underpin the development agenda in Oceania.
NZAID helps to fund some ODN events through the the GDN. For more information visit the GDN Oceania website.
NZAID also engages with and supports research activities through its commissioned research, scholarships and through funding the University of the South Pacific. For more information visit the University of the South Pacific website.
