New Zealand NGO contestable funds

Important notice

The Kaihono hei Oranga Hapori o te Ao Partnerships for International Community Development (KOHA-PICD) and Humanitarian Assistance Fund (HAF) have been replaced with two new contestable funds for New Zealand non-government organisations (NGOs).

The New Zealand Government has announced the replacement of its two contestable funding schemes for New Zealand's non-government organisations (NGOs). The Kaihono hei Oranga Hapori o te Ao (KOHA) Partnerships for International Community Development (PICD) scheme is to be replaced by a new fund called the Sustainable Development Fund which will be available to fund development work through NGOs. The Humanitarian Action Fund (HAF) is to be replaced by the Humanitarian Response Fund to support humanitarian responses emergency relief work as well as recovery and rehabilitation work during and after humanitarian disasters.

Sustainable Development Fund | SDF

Guidelines for the new Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) are now available.

All NGO's applying for funding under the SDF must complete the attached application form and a budget template.

The first deadline for receipt of applications under these guidelines will be 5.00pm (NZ time), 9 September 2010 with a second funding round planned for early 2011. These will be the only two funding rounds of the SDF in the current financial year.

Only accredited NGOs previously registered with the KOHA-PICD and who have received KOHA-PICD funding in the past two years will be eligible to apply for funding under the 9 September 2010 funding round.

The Conditions of Funding for the SDF are available below. Successful organisations will be required to enter into a Grant Funding Arrangement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand, based on these Conditions.

Humanitarian Response Fund | HRF

The Guideline for the new Humanitarian Response Fund (HRF) is now available

Throughout August, NGOs that received HAF funding during the 2008/09 and/or 2009/10 financial years will be contacted to ascertain whether they wish to enter into a standing arrangement to provide humanitarian assistance through the new HRF. For the 2010/11 financial year HAF registration is rolled over as a temporary accreditation with the HRF pending completion of the new accreditation process for HRF and SDF during 2010/11.
