Candidates who are offered a New Zealand Regional Development Scholarship (NZRDS) are asked to sign a declaration stating that they will comply with the conditions of the NZRDS scholarship. In addition, the candidate’s home government may impose separate conditions on the scholarship.

In accepting a NZRDS, at a minimum candidates agree:

  1. to take up the scholarship in the academic year for which it is offered
  2. that the scholarship offered is for the appropriate field and level of study
  3. to work diligently in the approved study programme and not change
    the programme or education institution without the prior agreement of NZAID
  4. to complete any preparatory, bridging or qualifying programme required by the education institution
  5. to study full-time, make every effort to achieve satisfactory academic progress (i.e. meet the education institution and NZAID's continuation criteria)
  6. to comply with the regulations of the education institution
  7. to provide details of their current residential and postal address to the education institution while in the study country, and to NZAID on their return home
  8. to the sharing and disclosure of information regarding their application, scholarship or study, including academic progress (including with the home government)
  9. to not change their visa type at any time during their scholarship, without prior agreement from NZAID
  10. to ensure their student permit/visa and passport are kept valid for the duration of their study or training
  11. not to engage in employment beyond the restrictions applying to their visa
  12. to notify NZAID or the International Students' Officer immediately should their circumstances change such that it would affect their scholarship or family status. This would include, for example, changes that potentially affect their residency/citizenship status, marital status or stipend, or their ability to complete within the original scholarship duration
  13. to provide for their dependants while they are in the study country
  14. to return home at the end of their scholarship, regardless of the time remaining on their visa
  15. to not apply for a work permit, permanent residency or citizenship of Australia or New Zealand during their scholarship or within two years of completion of their scholarship, and acknowledge that if they do, it will result in the scholarship being immediately terminated and that they will incur a substantial financial debt to the New Zealand Government to the total value of their scholarship
  16. to act in a manner that will not bring disrepute to themself, their family, their country or NZAID during the scholarship
  17. to obey the laws of the study country and maintain an acceptable standard of conduct
  18. to assist with evaluation of the NZRDS scheme while on scholarship or on completion of their scholarship as may be required
  19. that the information provided about and by them in the NZRDS application form was true, complete and correct and that supplying incomplete or false information would result in NZAID withdrawing the scholarship
  20. to leave the study country within 14 days of completion of their scholarship and return to their home country for at least two years to contribute to the development of their country by applying the skills and knowledge that they have acquired.
