The Cook Island Joint Country Strategy 2008-2017

In the Cook Islands, development assistance is guided by the Te Kaveinga Nui – Living the Cook Islands Vision, a 2020 challenge and the National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP) 2007 – 2010. Based on these documents, the Cook Islands, New Zealand (NZAID) and Australia (AusAID) have drafted a Joint Country Strategy (JCS) for 2008-17 which identifies areas of support for NZAID/AusAID development assistance. We have attached the latest draft of the Joint Country Strategy, the April 2007 NZAID Factsheet and a summary document.

During November-December, NZAID and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs are hosting Cook Island community meetings to:

to raise awareness of development assistance to the Cook Islands,
to inform the NZ community of the partnership between the Cooks Islands, Australia and New Zealand,
to share information about the strategy.

Invitations have been sent separately to members of the Cook Islands community for meetings in Christchurch (26 November), Wellington (29 November) and Auckland (5 December). Please contact the local office of the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs for further information.

The development of these strategic documents has been led by the Cook Islands Government and widely consulted with civil society organisations and community groups in the Cook Islands.
