Can I claim my overseas per diems for travel days?

No, as per diem allowance is provided to cover the costs of meals, accommodation, and incidentals, per diems are claimable only if you have stayed overnight in-country.

Where can I get the per diem rates for travel within New Zealand?

You cannot claim a per diem for travel within New Zealand as they apply to overseas travel. However, you may be able to claim actual and reasonable accomodation and a meal allowance. The meal allowance is normally:

  • breakfast $20
  • lunch $15
  • dinner $35.

How long will it take to get paid on my invoice?

Within 20 working days of receipt of correctly completed and fully itemised invoice with receipts and supporting documents.

Some of my expenses are in local currency. When converting to New Zealand dollars, what exchange rate should I use?

You should use the actual exchange rate charged by the bank and attach a bank receipt. If you do not have a bank receipt, you must use the market exchange rate applicable at the time of your travels.

Will I be reimbursed for items for which I do not have receipts?

Generally no. All claims must be accounted for with receipts or supporting documents. It is at NZAID's discretion to waive the production of a receipt if it is considered reasonable to do so.

Can I submit my air tickets indicating price as proof of payment for my airfares?

No, you must also provide a tax invoice from the travel agent or the airlines.
