Introduction to contracting with NZAID
NZAID, as the government's agency responsible for administering New Zealand's official development assistance, works with a variety of partners towards achieving its objectives. Such partners vary from governments, regional and multilateral agencies, as well as civil society, especially non-government organisations (NGOs), community groups, private sector organisations and individual consultants and contractors.
NZAID uses a range of contracting and funding arrangements in the delivery of official development assistance initiatives and activities. Direct assistance aims to help communities and individuals to fulfil their basic needs, for example providing grant funding for a community health project. Indirect Assistance aims at creating and sustaining social, cultural, environmental and economic conditions conducive to the elimination of poverty, for example contracting a technical advisor to provide capacity building and institutional strengthening.
NZAID's contracting processes follow government procurement guidelines. These processes are designed to ensure the efficient and effective use of public monies, as well as promoting open and effective competition, ethics, fair dealing, accountability and reporting.
