China : Improve Rural Incomes of Karst Mountain Guizhou Communities

The grantee, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Guizhou (DOA), aims to improve the rural incomes of Karst Mountain Guizhou communities through improving the life-time productivity of young stock and developing extension and educational capacity to ensure sustainability.

Nepal : Developing Sustainable Cereal and Legume Fodder Systems

Grantee : New Zealand Institute for Crop & Food Research Ltd

Timeframe : December 2007 to March 2011

In partnership with the Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) and the Department of Livestock (DLS), this project aims to facilitate economic growth and create on-farm employment opportunities by applying proven technologies generated by NARC and DLS researchers. The beneficiaries will be resource-poor smallholder farmers, who will be trained to grow high quality fodder on their own land, utilising bare land left between summer grain crops to improve milk production, household incomes and overall lifestyles while reducing the workloads of the women farmers who do the majority of the animal husbandry work.

Indonesia : Biogas for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods

Timeframe : October 2007 to October 2011

The grantee, in partnership with Lembaga Tumbuh Alami, plans to identify the optimum number and options for the type, size and locations of biogas digesters to ensure that rice growing communities in the Kerinci Valley have maximum exposure to biogas technology, biogas feedstock is available in sufficient quantities, and local government agencies are able to develop the necessary expertise to provide training and support to communities with biogas plants. Options for biogas digester design and for ownership and management arrangements will be identified. Analyses of environmental impact and preliminary training needs will also be prepared.

Lao : Developing New Opportunities for Lao Coffee Farmers

The grantee, in partnership with the Jhai Coffee Farmers Co-operative, aims to increase the income generating capacity of smallholder coffee farming households in the Bolovens Plateau by improving the quality of their coffee through proven and affordable processing technology. The Co-operative will be assisted to build a sustainable business base and will be supported in promoting and marketing the enhanced product around the world.

Timor Leste: Eye Health for Timor Leste

Timeframe : July 2007 to June 2010

This project partners with the Ministry of Health, with the aim of providing sustainable eye health for all in Timor Leste through building the capability of the Ministry of Health's Eye Health Unit to implement the National Eye Health Strategy. The project objectives are to build management capability of eye care personnel in Timor Leste, to develop a policy framework for eye care, and to implement the policy so the population can benefit from an improved quality of eye care services. A target has been set to improve standards of eye care by 80% by 2010, with increased service in rural areas and equal utilisation of services by men and women.

Vietnam : New Zealand Cooperation for Land Administration Programme Human Resources Development

Landzone, in partnership with the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE), plans to build HR capabilities within Vietnam 's Land Administration System (LAS). Key areas requiring support are the completion of the cadastral record system, land use certification issuance, establishment of a land information system, Land Code development, and completion of the land use planning system and land finance system.

Viet Nam : Tsunami Hazard Risk and Preparedness Assessment

In association with AC Consulting Services, the grantee will design and implement a project plan to strengthen the capacity of Vietnamese scientists to undertake tsunami hazard and risk assessments and to prepare mitigation strategies. Scientists at Vietnam 's Institute of Geophysics will be assisted in the proposed development of an earthquake information and tsunami early warning system ( VietNet GeoNet ).

Cambodia : Training and Quality Management Support to the Cambodian Mine Action Centre

The goal of this project is to strengthen the training capabilities and capacity of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) Training Centre so that it best supports mine action operations in Cambodia, contributes to collaborative training initiatives in the Greater Mekong Region, and can form the basis for a National Training Centre if the Royal Government of Cambodia deems that an option for the future.

This project aims to significantly and sustainably improve the health and socio-economic development of the Mentawai people. It will provide community-based governance elements of a sustainable and self-reliant health programme to reduce mortality and morbidity from targeted diseases and will provide the infrastructure and capacity for developing and implementing other community-led health care initiatives.

The goal of this assignment is to reduce community vulnerability to, and the impact of, HIV in the Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) Province by strengthening the capacity of local NGOs in NTB to respond to the emerging HIV epidemic; increasing the access to vulnerable groups to quality HIV prevention, care and support activities; and by facilitating and supporting increased collaboration between NGOs, the Provincial AIDS Commission and other government agencies.

Philippines : Family-Centred Poverty Reduction Programme

This assignment aims to contribute to the long-term social goal of reducing poverty in the province of Negros Occidental by establishing a community-based family-centred poverty reduction programme in thirty-two barangays in the municipalities of Murcia and Toboso. This will be achieved mainly through a mix of micro-enterprise credit assistance; technical/vocational skills development training; employment assistance and formal labour market linkaging; and empowerment of community institutions.
